No. 04 Annotate a screenshot
Point things out, blur the rest
Arrows, boxes, text and numbered steps, plus blur and pixelate for anything private. Every mark can be moved, undone or redone before you save.
Drop, paste or choose a screenshot
PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, AVIF or SVG. You can also press Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac) anywhere on the page.
How to annotate a screenshot
Add a screenshot, choose a tool, then drag on the image. Arrows go from where you press to where you let go. Boxes, blur and pixelate areas are dragged out corner to corner. A click places a numbered step (they count up by themselves, and renumber if you delete one) or opens a text box where you type and press Enter.
Use the select tool to move any mark, or to change its colour and size; double-click a piece of text to edit it. Undo and redo cover everything, including moves.
Hiding private details properly
Blur and pixelate change the pixels in the saved image; nothing of the original is kept underneath. Even so, a light blur over large text can sometimes still be read, and short numbers can be guessed from a coarse outline. For passwords, card numbers, recovery codes or personal addresses, use a filled box, which replaces the area with solid colour, or pixelate with a large pixel size.
Questions
Can someone undo my blur in the saved image?
The saved file only contains the blurred pixels, so there is no layer to switch off. Strong blur and large pixels are hard to read back, but for anything truly secret a filled box is the safe choice.
Can I annotate on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Drag with a finger or stylus to draw, and tap to place steps or text. While an image is open, dragging on it draws instead of scrolling the page.
Are my marks saved if I close the page?
No. Nothing is stored or uploaded, so download or copy the image before you leave. Opening a new image also starts afresh.
